About KapiteinLabs
KapiteinLabs is pioneering next-generation environmental technology through state-of-the-art plasma systems. We turn advanced plasma science into practical, low-emission solutions for air and water purification—engineering real impact for a cleaner, more sustainable world.

The Opportunity
Join us at a pivotal point as we transition from breakthrough research to full commercialization. As our IT Systems Engineer Intern, you will help shape and support the IT systems, infrastructure, and security environment that our teams rely on every day. Exceptional performers will have a clear pathway toward a full-time technical role.

Your Role & Impact
As our IT Systems Engineer Intern, you will help develop, maintain, and secure the IT systems that support our plasma technology research, engineering workflows, and company operations. You will work hands-on with infrastructure, user support, automation, and cybersecurity — ensuring our team can work efficiently and safely.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line and second-line IT support to the whole team
  • Maintain and optimize our IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and cloud environments
  • Assist in deploying and managing software, user accounts, and access permissions
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues related to hardware, networks, and applications
  • Contribute to cybersecurity tasks including patching, endpoint protection, MFA, and basic security audits
  • Help implement IT policies, backup procedures, asset management, and documentation
  • Support integration of IT systems with engineering tools (e.g., lab PCs, control systems, monitoring tools)
  • Collaborate with team leads to improve automation, reliability, and security across the organization

Technical Focus Areas

  • Windows, Linux, and cloud environment administration
  • Network configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Security: patching, updates, access control, MFA, backups
  • IT automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python is a plus)
  • Endpoint management (MDM, remote management tools, imaging)
  • Support for engineering software, lab systems, and version control platforms

Your Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Windows and Linux system administration
  • Understanding of networks, firewalls, VPNs, and common IT protocols
  • Interest in cybersecurity best practices (patching, access control, logging, secure configuration)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a structured, reliable working style
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Service-minded attitude with the ability to assist both technical and non-technical colleagues

Valued Experience (Not required but highly appreciated)

  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or similar)
  • Basic scripting or automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python)
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools, endpoint protection, or vulnerability scanning
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, identity management, or MDM solutions
  • Previous IT support or helpdesk experience
  • Exposure to cybersecurity frameworks or IT compliance processes

What We Offer

  • Impactful Work: Contribute directly to the IT systems that support cutting-edge plasma technology and real-world environmental innovation.
  • Hands-On Experience: Gain practical exposure to infrastructure management, cybersecurity, automation, and IT operations in a fast-moving deep-tech environment.
  • Modern Tech Stack: Work with cloud tools, secure networks, and engineering-focused IT setups that challenge your skills and accelerate your development.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside electrical engineers, product and business developers — seeing how IT enables every part of the company.
  • Ownership & Responsibility: As a small, high-impact team, your work will have immediate visibility and influence — no “coffee intern” tasks.
  • Supportive Environment: A culture that values curiosity, initiative, and continuous learning, with space to experiment and grow.
  • Professional Growth and Mentoring: Strong potential for a full-time Systems Engineer or IT Specialist role after the internship, based on performance.
